Shell and tube

The shell and tube heat exchanger are widely used in all industries for their versatility in construction according to the process conditions.

The K Series heat exchangers have been developed for air and gas cooling and heat dissipation. Various combinations of materials and components allow the heat exchangers to be adapted to a variety of operational conditions, and the housing can be individually adjusted to the local situation.

The extremely compact form factor facilitates optimal integration of the heat exchangers in the design of a facility. The structural layout is put together individually for each application according to the customer’s technical specifications. For applications with problematic water quality, the heat exchangers can be equipped water-side with a burn-in coating incorporating enhanced corrosion and encrustation protection or with titanium pipe bundles. On the jacket side, there is the option of surface enlargement with aluminium or copper plate fins. The casing may optionally be finished with nickel-plating or stainless steel.

The standardised HS Series of heat exchangers was especially developed for the heating of oil and water. The configuration makes use of the u-tube principle with free thermal expansion of the pipe bundle in dual-flow and quad-flow variants. The field of application includes both maritime and industrial settings to heat heavy oil, diesel oil, water, glycol and other liquids using water vapour, thermal oil and hot water.

Vaporisers and condensers are available as a standardised series in the low to medium power range. Essentially, this series was developed for ammoniac systems, but other media are possible on request.

The devices are fitted with a pipe bundle consisting of straight pipes to simplify inspection and cleaning. The vaporiser is a flooded vaporiser with integrated liquid separator. The vaporiser has a filling capacity exactly tuned to the operating conditions, and this must be regulated with precision. We recommend the use of low-pressure regulating valves and a filling capacity adjusted precisely for the entire system. Ideally, the condensers and vaporisers of this series should be used in combination. Both products are available in all-welded and in sealed construction variants. All vaporisers/condensers may be operated with fresh water, recirculated cooling water or cooling towers. Seawater-resistant models, constructed from CuNi or titanium, are available on request.

Dual pipe heat exchangers in safety format are suitable for deployment wherever circumstances may arise where the contamination of water coolant or the mixing of two media must be avoided. This is the case, for example, with an oil cooler cooled with fluvial water. The dual pipe safety heat exchanger is constructed as a “pipe in pipe” system with dual pipe plates. In the event of a pipe break, it prevents the cross-mixing or contamination of the pipe-side and shell-side media. A possible leak is recognised by a decrease or increase in the pressure of a buffer medium in the control room and is notified by means of an electrical signal transmitted via a pressure switch.
